The Técnico – Oeiras Campus Library began operating in September 2003. Its priority is to provide support to the students of the bachelor’s and master’s degrees taught on campus. This support focuses mainly on two aspects: (I) providing access to bibliography and other references and (II) providing space for individual study and group work.

Located on the ground floor of Técnico – Oeiras Campus building, it covers an area of 828.72 m2 and has three rooms reserved for individual study and four offices for group work.

Rules for using the service

Access to the Library’s facilities and its collections is open and free of charge to the entire university community and the general public.

University students from outside the Instituto Superior Técnico who wish to use the spaces to study in the evenings, at weekends and on public holidays must apply for authorisation to access the premises: Application for access to the Instituto Superior Técnico building – Oeiras Campus.

Collections

The collection of the Instituto Superior Técnico Library (BIST) comprises books, journals and other materials relating to the various fields of knowledge covered by the Instituto Superior Técnico’s activities.

The resources available are divided into print and electronic formats and are distributed across different platforms.

Much of the print material can be searched via the Bibliographic Catalogue and is located throughout the various areas of the Library. The Digital Library provides access to various scientific databases, collections of e-books and scientific journals, and the Scholar Institutional Repository.

At the Técnico – Oeiras Campus Library, there is also a collection of around 1,500 science fiction and fantasy (SF&F) books available for request. In the main hall, next to the library’s north entrance, there is also the official BookCrossing area, whose motto is “read, register and release”.

The Técnico Library provides tutorials to facilitate efficient access to the available resources. To make the best use of the various services, the Library asks that, wherever possible, the relevant forms be used.
