Volunteering is a valuable tool for the comprehensive development of students and for strengthening academic social responsibility. Through involvement in volunteer activities, students have the opportunity to acquire and consolidate skills such as empathy, ethical awareness, teamwork and active citizenship, which complement their scientific and technical training. At the same time, volunteering helps to bring academia and the community closer together, promoting knowledge transfer, social cohesion and a response to emerging social needs.
It is in this context that the Student Support has been establishing partnerships with institutions in the surrounding community, with the aim of creating structured volunteering opportunities that promote the active participation of students, reinforce their academic and personal integration, and contribute to social and community development.
One of the partner institutions is CROAMO (Official Animal Collection Center of the Municipality of Oeiras). This institution needs volunteers to carry out activities essential to the welfare of the animals (walking dogs and socialising with the animals), to participate in awareness-raising activities in schools and at events promoted by the Municipality of Oeiras Animal Welfare Unit, and to develop IT tools to support the daily management of this center.
If you love animals and want to contribute to their welfare, sign up here.
If, on the other hand, you prefer to have an international volunteering experience in European projects fully funded by the European Commission, don’t miss the information session promoted by the ProAtlântico Youth Association, which will take place at the Oeiras Campus on 26 February at 12 noon. To participate in the session, please fill out this form.
