Mentoring Programme

The integration process and the development of a sense of belonging to the institution and the course, play a decisive role in students’ well-being and academic performance. In this sense, and with a view to promoting student integration, the Student Support promotes the Mentoring Programme, which runs throughout the academic year.

The Mentoring Programme is an institutional programme whose main objective is to promote the academic, personal and social integration of new students entering the 1st year of a Técnico degree for the first time. It is a completely voluntary programme, which essentially depends on the spirit of mutual support among students.

The Mentoring Programme aims to reinforce academic success, reduce the risk of dropouts and enhance the development of transversal skills. These objectives are achieved through active participation in initiatives and activities that promote the personal, social and academic growth of students.

Mentoring Programme Regulations

Welcoming exchange students

The activities to be carried out throughout the academic year focus on promoting national and international exchange initiatives promoted by Técnico, as well as providing clear and up-to-date information to regular and international students within the scope of the various exchange programmes. They include the organisation of actions and events that facilitate the reception, welcoming and integration of mobility and international students, with particular emphasis on the organisation of welcome weeks for incoming students in the first and second semesters, thus contributing to a more integrated and inclusive academic and social experience.

Mentoring Programme for Mobility Students

The Mentoring Programme also includes incoming students. When applying to be a mentor, students have the opportunity to indicate their availability to accompany an incoming student, contributing to their integration at Técnico during their mobility period.

What are the benefits of an incoming student having a mentor?

The mentor provides essential support for incoming students who arrive in a new country and culture and, in most cases, do not speak Portuguese. In this context, the mentor’s support is essential for resolving everyday issues, such as finding accommodation, enrolling in courses, etc.
