Being a pioneer project of Instituto Superior Técnico (1996), it was implemented with a specific model for the Técnico – Oeiras Campus from 2010. The Mentoring Program gives students of the same course a closer approach to each other, not only among students of the same year, but also from more advanced years, thus contributing to better integration.
The Mentoring Program (portuguese version only) has been constantly improving over the years to provide increasingly efficient support for students.
Who is the Mentor?
Mentor is a student of the same course, 2nd or 3rd year, who will assist new students at the enrollment and academic integration throughout the year.
Mentor Application
June / July runs the Mentor application period for the following school year. Following is an interview at the Student Support office for volunteer profiling.
Mentor Activities
Mentoring Programme Guide
You can consult the Mentoring Programme Guide of Técnico – Oeiras Campus, where you will find activities to do in Oeiras and Lisbon with mentors, mentees, and friends, as well as answers to the most common FAQs for new students at Técnico.
Welcome Week
Registration of new students (mentees) and organisation of the Student Welcome: during Welcome Week, mentors must be present throughout the enrolment process of their degree programme. Each new student is assigned a mentor on the first day of registration. New students are accompanied throughout the entire process by the mentors on site.
Room 1.1
To support good academic performance, a group study room (Room 1.1, 1st floor) has been created for the exclusive use of 1st-year students and their mentors, open from 9:00 to 21:00. Study groups are coordinated by mentors or integrated into the office hours of professors from the respective courses.
Monitoring mentees’ academic success
Throughout the semester, mentors maintain contact with their mentees through various activities and communication tools.
