SET – Business and Technology Week 2024: Sharing experiences and know-how

Between February 26th and 29th, the central atrium of the Taguspark campus of Instituto Superior Técnico hosted another edition of the Business and Technology Week (SET). This event is organized by students from all courses on the campus, aiming to help students better understand opportunities for their future careers and, simultaneously, allowing companies to showcase their activities and offerings.

The organization prepared several activities that promoted the exchange of knowledge during the Business and Technology Week 2024. These included speed interviews, where participants had the opportunity to introduce themselves to a group of companies that provided feedback and tips on how to improve a pitch. There were also lectures where students could listen to and question experienced professionals from different areas addressing various current topics. Workshops allowed for more direct interaction between the student community and the companies.

The range of topics covered in the workshops and lectures was quite diverse to cater to the interests of students from various courses on the campus.

Numerous companies participated throughout the 4-day event, spanning diverse sectors such as finance, technology, telecommunications, retail, and consulting. This edition featured 58 companies and 18 speakers, providing valuable interactions with the professional world.

Companies seized the opportunity not only to get closer to students but also to share the visions and values guiding their operations. They emphasized the importance of such events in “promoting the brand and sharing job and internship opportunities we have available,” explained Núria Rodrigo, a member of the Human Resources team at Avanade.

From the students’ perspective, participants from all courses with different objectives attended the event. “My approach to the business world is still very introductory, so I intend to start engaging with companies and learn more about summer internships,” explained Maria Luís, a 1st-year student in Industrial Engineering and Management.

The organization highlighted the interest and proactivity of the students throughout the week as one of the event’s strengths. Manuel Candeias, a member of the SET coordination, also emphasized the success of the speed interviews, stating that they have been “very enriching, allowing students to leave with constructive feedback from employers to prepare them for upcoming recruitment and interview situations.” Additionally, the lectures provided dynamic moments, concluding with discussion and question sessions between speakers and participants, “creating significant value for everyone involved,” he added.
