Técnico Oeiras hosts the biggest game creation marathon, Global Game Jam 2025

From 24 to 26 January, the Polo de Oeiras e hosted another edition of the Global Game Jam, a creative game development marathon organised by the Games Lab. This international event brings together participants from all over the world, challenging them to create a complete game in just 48 hours.
This year, the theme of Global Game Jam 2025 was ‘bubbles’, an abstract concept that challenged the dozens of teams to explore different creative interpretations. Artistic freedom was one of the highlights of the edition, allowing each team to create unique experiences.
Pedro Figaleio, a computer engineering student, shared his experience of taking part in the event for the first time: ‘It’s definitely going to be a spectacular event, because if I want to work with games in the future, I think taking part in the Global Game Jam is an asset.’
The Global Game Jam is an initiative that brings together talents from different areas, such as Computer Engineering, Arts and Cybersecurity. Gonçalo Silva, a student on the Master’s Degree in Video Games, Interaction and Visualisation, highlighted the dynamics of his team, ‘everyone has their own role, even with members you don’t know, anything goes.’
For the past seven years, Técnico Oeiras has opened its doors to host this creative marathon. The Global Game Jam offers participants a unique opportunity to develop technical and artistic skills in a competitive and enriching environment.
